Going Green, Holidays

Really Go GREEN this St. Patrick’s Day

As we watch the impact of climate change unfold, the “going green” movement takes on greater significance than ever. As we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, why not do it in a way that helps the environment? In the spirit of this fun holiday, here are a few eco-friendly ideas to ring in the festivities:

Wear green (organic) enthusiastically.

While many organic alternatives do cost a little bit more, I can tell you the fabric is so luxurious. This St. Patrick’s Day why don’t you go green in color and fabric?

Get veggie with it!

As with many holidays, eating is an essential part of celebrating. Did you know that the average American diet generates an equivalent of 1.5 tons more carbon dioxide per year than a vegan diet? The higher carbon footprint of a carnivorous diet is caused by the gas emissions that are produced from the animals. So if you’re throwing a party to bring in the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day, then do so in an eco-friendly way by serving vegetables. If possible, you can also try to use produce grown locally, which will further reduce the carbon footprint of your meal!

Add green to the neighborhood.

True, Arbor Day is next month, but there’s nothing stopping you from jumping the gun a little bit. Plant something green, such as a tree, bush, flowers or vegetables in the ground or in a pot. Because trees remove carbon dioxide from the air as they grow, tree planting can be a great technique to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. This will not only add the color green to the neighborhood but also give back to the environment!

We hope you’re able to make this St. Patrick’s Day greener than ever! Please share with us ways you hope to celebrate this St. Patrick’s Day in an eco-friendly way!
