Saving… It Can Be Easier Than You Think

Whether it’s for upcoming holiday gifts, a much needed vacation or a home, most of us are saving for something. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is looking for easy ways to save money. Let’s face it there aren’t piles of cash just laying around waiting to be saved. I recently read an article on Yahoo! Finance that made me realize I’d already found ways to save and there were more saving opportunities out there. Here are some ideas I’ve tried and some I plan on doing soon.

Telephone/Cable/Internet

I’m putting these together because we have a bundle package which in itself can save money. After studying our bill I realized we were paying for telephone features we didn’t even use especially since we only have the home phone for our alarm. We use our cell phones for long distance and pretty much all calls. I called the company and removed all of the phone features, no need to pay for things I wasn’t using! I also removed the movie channels because we weren’t watching them enough to justify the cost. I don’t remember the exact amount but I want to say it was close to a $20/month savings, that’s $240 a year!

Cell Phone

Taking a few minutes to really analyze your bill could save you a lot of money. Opting for an unlimited package because you don’t want to worry about having overage charges may seem logical, but that might not be the best choice. Look at your actual usage over a couple of months to see if there is a plan that includes everything you need for less money, it could save you quite a bit of cash. This is one I need to do!

Car Insurance

There are a lot of companies out there who want your business. Taking the time to call your insurance company to see if there are ways you can save and also calling other companies to see what plans and rates they could offer you may add up to large monthly savings. I found a lot of companies offer all kinds of discounts, but unless you inquire about them they may not ever be suggested. Also, raising your deductible can save on your monthly payments, just make sure you have the money set aside to cover the deductible in case of an emergency.

Hopefully these ideas will inspire you to find ways you can save in your home. If you have found other easy ways to save please comment and share with others. We call could use extra cash this time of year!
