Holiday Decorating Themes

Making your home’s holiday decor look as if it came straight from the pages of a magazine is easier than you think. Deciding on your theme and what areas you want to be a focal point are the first step and will provide you with the foundation you need to make your holiday décor fabulous. Here are some holiday decorating themes that can be easily implemented in your home.

Modern and Chic

Deep shades of teal and blue mixed with pops of green and gold are a glamorous and unique choice. A good place to implement this idea is your Christmas tree. Allow your presents and tree ornaments to serve as a major decorating focal point by wrapping your presents in the bold blue colors and adding ribbon in gold and green. Use peacock feathers instead of bows on the presents and include them as ornaments on the tree to add texture to the look. Create a bold centerpiece using this theme by placing clear glass vases on a gold tray, fill the glasses with deep blue and green ornaments and place peacock feathers around the vases on the tray.

Natural Elements

Bringing nature indoors creates a warm and earthy feel to a home. Using items like snow covered (well, snow spray painted) pine cones, and foliage like branches from a tree are great options. Adding in natural wood items helps to complete this look. In addition to wood coloring, other earth tone colors such as green, grays, oranges and reds help bring in the rustic feel into your holiday décor. This theme can be used throughout a home and works especially well on a mantel.

White Out

This may be dangerous with children, but for homes tailored for adults this option is stunning! White can be used in so many ways and has the ability to completely transform a home. A home with white couches and chairs is ideal for this look. A good start for including holiday décor is by spray painting snow onto your Christmas tree branches and sticking to predominantly white ornaments including little touches of silver and gold to add sparkle to the décor. Epsom salt is great for creating the look of snow. You can use this in candle holders and for centerpieces to complete the look.

Now that you have some holiday theme inspiration… Have fun decorating!
