For those of you who do not know Mandi from Vintage Revivals, let me be the first to tell you that on top of being incredibly talented, she has an awesome personality and is super fun to work with! We love her and we’re not the only ones, Nate Berkus loves her too! In preparation for our upcoming sponsored #SNAPit chat on March 29th on Twitter, we sat down with Mandi to discuss the improvements she’s made on her home and what awesome projects she has planned for the future. This is what she had to say:
Q: What home improvement projects have you done on your home?
Master Bedroom Before & After
A: I have done a lot of painting projects. When we bought our home the house was disgusting! The before photos are pretty nasty. When we moved in we ripped out the gross old dirty carpet and installed our own hardwood flooring. The cabinets in the kitchen needed a little TLC so we had someone come out and re-stain them to give them a new fresh look. Little things like re-staining cabinets can make a huge difference in a home. In the beginning I mostly focused on the aesthetics of the home. Putting time and attention into those little things can actually do a lot to improve the look and feel of your home.
Q: If money were no issue, what improvements would you like to make on your home?
Entry Way Update Before & After
A: My house is fairly new, it was built in 2006. When we purchased the home it was very builder grade. It looked like a million other houses in America. So if money were no issue right now I’d rip out the tile in the entry way and bathrooms and replace it with a look that fits my personality more. Right now it’s a terra-cotta type tile and I just don’t love it. I’d also get new cabinet fronts for my kitchen. That’s actually something I’m planning on doing in the future. I want to add a double row on top of my current cabinets.
Q: Do you consider adding to your home’s value when deciding on what projects to tackle?
A: Not really. I pick my home improvement projects based on what I want to do to my home. My home’s value isn’t really a priority to me as I don’t plan on moving anytime soon. I sometimes consider if a project I want to do will hurt the value of my home, but honestly even if it might, I do the project anyway. There really aren’t a lot of cheap, easy and quick fixes that you can do to your home that will add value. The projects I like will add a lot of character, but not necessarily value.
Living Room Before
Living Room After
Q: What home projects do you have planned for 2012?
A: Definitely my kitchen and my living room! I’m taking a giant step for the décor in my living room. People are going to be shocked! I like to look at the fashion trends because fashion is usually a year or two ahead of home décor so it gives me insight into what the next big thing will be. I’m really loving the Southwest vibe right now, not in the traditional sense though. The new Southwest has a lot of reds and blues.
Design wise I think people are scared. And that’s fine not everyone will be the first to try something. One of the best things about blogging and blog land is that there are so many different styles out there that everyone is bound to find something they can embrace. It also finally gives people the confidence to showcase themselves through their home décor.

It really doesn’t matter what your home looks like, you can change it into something you love. And the best part is you can change it as frequently as you’d like! One of the best things about being a homeowner is “You can do whatever you want. You have an opportunity to really explore your style. Whereas living in an apartment you don’t really have a lot of opportunities to express yourself creatively.”
