Creating an Outdoor Beach Retreat

Not all of us are lucky enough to live by the beach, but that doesn’t have to stop us from creating an outdoor beach retreat! The weather is warming up and you deserve an outdoor room to enjoy. Today I am going share with you four simple ways to create your own outdoor beach oasis!

1. Color palette

To create a soothing and tranquil outdoor retreat, take your color hints from Mother Nature. Blues, greens, tans, creams, and whites always look fantastic together! Look for toss pillows, a rug, a garden stool, and planters in colors that mimic the sea. Tip: Keeping your furniture and main cushions neutral allows you to easily change your color palette when the mood or seasons change.

2. Ropes

You can find many pre-made rope accessories at your favorite home decor shops, or you can venture out and make your own! Adding rope decor to your outdoor seating area adds a nautical touch to your space. Tip: If you want an easy rope accessory, try hot gluing rope or twine around a few wiffle balls and placing them in a decorative bowl on your outdoor table.

3. Natural Accents

Adding shells, driftwood and other natural, textured pieces will add depth and character to your outdoor space. You can also incorporate palm plants and tropical flowers in your backyard too for added flair, especially if you climate offers warmth in the spring and summer months. Choose your accessories to evoke the feeling you want to create. Tip: Fill mason jars with sand and add shells and candles to create a simple yet powerful beach accessory.

4. Natural accents

Adding some nautical stripes to your outdoor decor will have you almost hearing those waves lap up against the shore! Okay, well perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration, but stripes will certainly look fantastic in your space! Look for striped throw pillows or a striped outdoor rug. Tip: If buying a striped outdoor rug isn’t in the budget, consider making your own! You can paint stripes onto a plain outdoor rug, a canvas, rubber floor mats, or even vinyl.
