Make Your 4th of July Even Sweeter

July 3, 2012
by Cierra Seal

Fourth of July is always a great time to host parties with family and friends. If you’re attending a party, it’s often common courtesy to bring a dish for everyone to enjoy. In honor of Fourth of July, these four festive treats will make everyone’s Fourth of July even sweeter.

Of course, we all have to show off our patriotic side! What better way than to decorate your very own flag cake?

All you need to decorate this cake is two pints of strawberries, a pint of blueberries, and fluffy boiled icing.  Ice the cake and place the blueberries in the top left corner. If your cake is big enough you’ll be able to place 50 in honor of the 50 states! Then create 6 rows of strawberries horizontally and your flag will be finished! Easy as cake!

A Chocolate Berry Meringue would be good for those chocolate lovers out there! And the recipe is flexible so if you’re not a fan of a certain type of berry you don’t have to include it. All you need to make this yummy treat is whipping cream, sugar, vanilla, any berry of your choosing, and bittersweet chocolate curls or shavings. And the great thing about this is that it only takes 5 minutes to make! After those five minutes are up, you’ll successfully have your yummy meringue.

Looking for something that isn’t chocolaty or fruity? A sparkler cupcake would be a perfect alternative! All that’s needed in order to create this are red, white, and blue candy coating disks, creamy white frosting, and confetti cupcake mix. It is a little more time consuming because it takes 45 minutes to prepare; but what cupcake isn’t worth the much time? Maybe you can even try to compete and make your cupcakes better than Georgetown Cupcakes!

Another cute and fun flag idea is to create a fruit tart flag! It’s simple and easy.  All you need to do is fill the pre-made mini tart shells with mascarpone cream and top them off with strawberries and blueberries in order to make it look like a flag.  With having the shells pre-made this shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to do!  You’ll feel very patriotic and sweet once you have it all completed!

Whichever of these recipes you choose for your dessert to make for your party, or to bring to a party; everyone will love them! Don’t feel bad for over indulging in these yummy desserts. It’s okay this holiday only comes once year!  Make sure to stay safe and of course, enjoy yourself!
