TRENDING: Polka Dots

I LOVE polka dots! They are timeless and classic and even though they are super trendy right now in home décor and fashion, they will never really go out of style. Polka dots can be charming and whimsical or bold and modern. They are not just for children’s spaces. They are chic and perfect for any room.

This room seems so fresh! And it is a shining example of mixing patterns. Polka dots are great for mixing with other patterns. I love the different sizes and colors of polka dots that were used here as well.

This room is so fun! It is colorful and modern. It is a good example of how polka dots can be playful and hip. Again, they are easily mixed with other patterns.

I love everything about this next picture. I love the old looking map against the bold polka dots. I think using old and new elements in a room keeps it feeling balanced.

I adore this sheer table cloth! It is so romantic! I am now on a quest to find one of my own. Who knew polka dots could be so dreamy? The table cloth being pared with the vintage chairs is perfect since polka dots can have a vintage vibe all on their own. This would be perfect for a wedding, bridal shower, or garden party.

Pillows are the perfect way to incorporate pattern into a space with out a ton of commitment. If you want to experiment with a new pattern, this is a fun place to start. I love the bit of color these blue pillows give the space. If they weren’t there it would totally chance the space.

Now I need a sheer table cloth AND some sheer polka dot curtains! These would easily fit in a modern, sleek room or they would be right at home in a little cottage by the lake. I love how versatile they are.

Now if you love polka dots and commitment is not a problem, then maybe you want to jump right in with some bold, colorful spots on your walls! What an impact these dots make to this space. Some of the fabrics used are vintage as well as the accessories but the large scale polka dots are more modern so it balances out the room nicely.

I told you I love polka dots and to prove it, here is my hallway that I stenciled a polka dot pattern on all the walls. Since it connects all the rooms together (that are all each a different color) I felt the hallway should be neutral. So I did a tone on tone color pallet. It is subtle but still fun.

This office space is amazing! The white is makes it so crisp, clean, and modern but there is something about black and white polka dots that scream “vintage”. It is a good blend of the two styles.

If you read my blog at all you know I have a thing for painted ceilings. These gold dots are fabulous! Who wouldn’t feel luxurious laying in bed staring at gold polka dots? It is whimsical, unexpected, and original.

chairs

When I was searching for polka dot furniture there were not many examples except when it came to chairs. Ranging from traditional to modern, there were a wide range of chairs! And with learning to reupholster becoming more and more common, all you need is a thrift store chair and some new fabric!

This chair is awesome! I am partial to both antique brass and black and white patterns. Together they are wonderful. And for someone who has never been a huge pink fan, (gulp) I will admit the pillow is a fun punch of color.

The smaller scale dots along with the color and styling of the room around it makes this grey tufted chair more on the traditional side. I can imagine it by a window over looking a field of flowers. It has an heir of romance to it.

Accessories are for me, are the finishing touch for a room. They add personality and sometimes are the only touch of color. This is also a good place to play around with trends. If it goes out of style or you decide you don’t like it, then they are easily exchangeable.

But I can’t imagine not always and forever loving this gold polka dotted vase! This was once an ordinary clear vase until some gold paint was added. It was the perfect touch!

I do not own a hutch or anything in which to display dishes and yet I buy them and hoard them. One day when I do display my eclectic collection, you better believe there will be some polka dotted ones! How darling is this collection? And the bold colors are the perfect match for the old cabinet.

Aside from walls, pillows, dishes, and curtains, I also have a lamp shade that is polka dotted! It started out plain white but with some vinyl dots (that acted as a reverse stencil) and a little spray paint, it became the perfect shade for my office closet.

This simple DIY project is so classy. What a fun inexpensive way to add chic art to your space. You could do any color to match your personality and décor. I am kind of partial to the gold myself!

So what do you think of the polka dot trend? Do you already have it in your home? Are you a bold and modern person or more traditional? I would love to hear your thoughts!
