Allison’s Home is a Place to Create

In support of the Inspiring Home Moments campaign Homes.com reached out to bloggers and asked them to share their home moments. These are Allison’s home moments from Two Thirty-Five Designs.

Creating a place that is your own can at times be thrilling and draining. But having a home that reflects you and all the little creative personalities that live and play there, is something to be proud of.

There were a lot of uncertainties after we lost all we had created in our house fire last November.

But the one thing we knew we needed back was not just another house (as there have been many), but a home for our family of five to create their own space and play, live and just be in it.

Over the past fifteen years of marriage, there have been just about as many places we have lived. Our kids are growing and we both knew that our time with them is only getting shorter. We need them to just be kids a little longer, play and enjoy their little lives, and create awesome memories of their home.

It has been a whirlwind of emotions, losing all that we worked so hard on to make our last place ours, but I knew we could do it again, and love it even more. The littles have different personalities than what they had years ago, so giving them an entirely different space of their own has been rewarding. And something that they are proud of.

As with most DIY bloggers, working on an area is a never ending process, we thrive off of change. So nothing is every really finished, but I am just about to where I can hit the pause button on blondie’s space. I totally went off of their wants for bedding, with clenched teeth might I add, and the snowball built from there. All three were very different… I totally dig that about them.

The six year old’s has been the easiest to put together, as are most kids rooms. Seriously, who can agree with a teenager who wants posters up and Christmas lights strung everywhere. She told me the colors she wanted and we discussed bedding. She is still at the age where she loves to play in her room, for hours. So we knew she needed floor space and opted for a loft bed.

After paint and textiles, it was time for lighting. I am totally not a fan of ceiling lights, would rather have lamps and such turned on. Maybe that’s where the teenager gets it from…

Anywho, I needed lighting for her for when she wants to read her little books in bed, giggle with friends and when a spontaneous dance party occurs (which happens on a daily basis). Some of my options were to string lights from her swinging chair, which give just enough glow to still take a snooze in.

And taking a more personalized route by adding her initials above her bed that give out a great amount of light.

She is giddy about her space, as we all are in this new place. And having their input and personalities to make it their own is exciting.

Our home is a work in progress and so are these little lives. Our stuff is exactly that, just stuff. How we create it into our own, is our little story to tell.
