I’ve always loved celebrating the New Year. It symbolizes somewhat of a fresh start and clean slate for another year. That being said, since we became parents, our New Years Eve partying has changed quite dramatically. Ha! We’re lucky if we can make it till ten o’clock most years… but that doesn’t stop us from having a ton of fun.

Last year we threw our own little party with just the 5 of us, complete with yummy treats and even fun decor. It was a blast, and my kids still talk about it and love to look back at the pictures we took that night. This got me thinking… why not share some fun ideas for a few easy DIY photo backdrop ideas that you can make, to capture the moments from your New Years Eve parties this year!

These cut out, glittery gold stars and small strung ornaments are a perfectly simple way to dress up a white wall. I’m sure this only takes a few minutes per strand, and as you can see, you can do as many or as few as you want.

Triangle paper garland and balloons are a fabulous way to fill up lots of wall space, especially if you have a bigger group of people to fit into a shot. I love that with this technique there’s no specific way you have to lay things out. The haphazard display makes everything actually look really great!

If you’re feeling bold, go with tinsel for a flashy, loud, dramatic backdrop. You can string these strands in straight lines, or zigzag them a bit to give the backdrop even more texture.

Once you’ve decided what your photo background will look like, add even more fun to your pictures by including a few extras. You can do something as simple as bubbles, or as detailed as different masks and signs for people to hold up.

These DIY confetti poppers are really creative and would be super fun to use, right as the clock strikes twelve.

If you’re running short on time and don’t have the supplies for anything really detailed, no worries, just make some of your own confetti with a small paper punch. We did this for an event we just had recently, and it was so fun being able to throw a big handful in the air as our pictures were being taken!
