Freshening up Your Master Bedroom for the New Year

I don’t know about you, but once the new year hits, my mind is full of a million ideas on how to clean out, organize and freshen up our home. Maybe it’s because the process of putting away all the holiday decorations from the months prior sometimes forces you to readjust a few closets and storage rooms. Either way, it feels great to get things looking and feeling ready for another big year.

One of the most neglected areas in a lot of peoples’ homes tends to be the master bedroom, so I thought I’d list a few easy, affordable ways that anyone can freshen up their sleeping sanctuary.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to revive a space is to air it out. Even on cold days, just opening up your windows for a few minutes can make a big difference. Sometimes we don’t realize how stuffy and stale a room can get. Another great way to add some zest into your air is to release some relaxing or rejuvenating essential oils, using an air purifier. Any sort of citrus-type oil or blend will do the trick!

Incorporating plants into a room is the perfect way to bring in new life and greenery to a drab or tired space. If you’re worried about the upkeep, then try something like a succulent, fresh herb or easiest of them all, an air plant! They’re only watered about once every two weeks, so they are almost maintenance-free!

For the majority of us, our actual bed is the focal point of our rooms, so when your linens are worn or outdated, it definitely makes things appear dull. Try simply replacing your sheets for a brand new, crisp set, purchase a fluffy new comforter or perk up your existing bedding with a bunch of new, fun, bright pillows! You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference this can make to a room.

Nightstands are known for being junk collectors. Spare change, loose papers and jewelry are the biggest offenders. Try using a small box or tray for receipts, stylish bowl for coins, and creative storage drawers to store bracelets, necklaces and rings. Having a place for all of those items can help to cut down on the clutter quickly.
