3 Fresh Décor Tips for Making Your Space Feel Bigger

Fresh-Decor-Featured

There are times we feel as though we could have more decorating options if only our rooms were larger. In reality, working in smaller spaces in our homes gives us so many opportunities to get creative. I have found that when I have bigger rooms, I end up with too much stuff instead of making better use of what I have. That is the number one reason I love working with a smaller space.

The goal when decorating a smaller space is to give the illusion that the space is bigger than it really is. Here are 3 fresh decor tips that will help you make any room in your home feel and look larger.

Plants:

Bringing the outdoors in is like expanding the windows! I bought the FINTORP rail and cutlery caddy from Ikea for this fun project. These are intended for organizing utensils in kitchens, but I like to think outside the box. I also grabbed a few real-looking artificial plants at Ikea to go in the caddy and created an indoor window box in this small bathroom. This organizing system can also pull double duty in your bathroom. When you are having guests, pop the plants out and use the caddy to hold washcloths and extra toiletries!

Mirrors:

Using mirrors in a small area is a great way to give the illusion of a bigger space, especially when placed opposite a window. Use your mirrors in a way that they will reflect as much natural light as possible. This is one of my favorite tricks in decor. If there’s a spot in your home that doesn’t have a window, place a lamp near the mirror. The lamp will then be the reflecting source.

Doors:

Removing interior doors is a great space saver and opens up any room, giving the illusion that the room has been expanded. This is an easy task for renters because the doors can be stored under beds and easily put back on when the time comes. Closets located in foyers and narrow hallways are perfect options for this project. Using a hallway closet for your home’s ‘drop zone’ for keys, mail, shoes, and pet accessories can be easily accessed when the closet doesn’t have doors. You can hang a basic metal curtain rod on the inside of the closet door, add curtain panels, and have instant coverage if you don’t want guests to see in.

These simple tips can be implemented quickly in any rental home, giving the illusion that you have expanded your space! Get started with these fresh decor ideas that you can do today.
