DIY Fresh Spring Art for Decorating Your Rental

It’s that time of year when we all crawl out of winter looking for some lighter and brighter ways to decorate our homes. When you live in a rental home you may want to decorate your walls differently from time to time without doing anything permanent. Freshening up your walls with spring art is a great option.

Creating your own art is perfect if you are a renter because it allows you to decorate in a small or big way inexpensively without damaging any permanent structures. Here’s a relatively easy art project you can do for spring to freshen up your apartment or rental home.

For this spring art, I started with simple white frames. These frames are Better Homes & Gardens frames that I picked up from my local Walmart. They come in many different shapes and sizes for you to choose from giving you the option to select the best frames proportionate to your space.

Next, pick out some spring scrapbook papers that will coordinate with your current décor but still highlight spring accents. Look for papers that showcase things seen in nature. It could be birds and butterflies or color inspirations such as various shades of blues and greens. You can purchase the scrapbook paper from any craft store. If the paper you choose is already decorative, like the butterfly paper, then it can be used as is. These days, it’s easy to find paper that is gorgeous and almost looks like detailed wallpaper. Depending on the size of the frame you choose, you may need to cut your paper to fit accordingly. Open the frame up and lay the paper inside just like you would a photo.

For another look, I chose a paper that needed embellishment such as a monogram, which is popular. Your local craft store will also have items that are precut, such as tags, which add a unique touch. I added the letter H sticker to a couple of tags for a layering effect.

This fresh spring art can be hung on a wall or placed on tabletops, as I did here. It isn’t necessary to go over the top for seasonal decorating; subtle hints of the season are perfect. If you would like to add to the art, try buying some fresh flowers and a new throw pillow for the sofa. These temporary décor items, combined, would make for great spring decorating for your rental.
