I love a pretty table setting, and this time of year there are so many opportunities to set a beautiful table. Whether you are having guests or a nice family dinner with your immediate family members, decorating a table is fun.

I am a firm believer that you do not have to spend money at all, or can spend very little, to make a pretty table.

The best tips I can offer are to have white dishes and placemats that will go with every season and style of décor. I have had both the white plates and the woven placemats for years. I purchased them all at a yard sale for a bargain.

For this DIY centerpiece I searched my home. The table runner is a scrap piece of fabric. I love the deep jewel toned blue for the fall season. It can also work from Thanksgiving through winter.

Next I gathered a stack of books from around my house. I thought it would be a fun way to make a unique centerpiece for the table. Random books are fine, but if you are an avid reader and have enough books for a themed centerpiece, that would be awesome as well.

Then I layered in the greenery and pears. The color combination here is warm and inviting. The pears are also something I have had for years. They are fake pears but look so real. Of course you can always use fresh fruit but like I said, I searched my house and had these stored in a dining room drawer.

Remember you can keep your tablescape simple and inexpensive by having pieces at home that you can use year round. Keep your eyes open for the perfect DIY centerpiece at home too. Regular everyday items always make for a fun and unique table without spending money.
