How to Deal with the Holiday Clean-Up!

Homes.com-Luxury-Kitchen

This holiday, wouldn’t you rather be enjoying your friends and family, than worrying about how you’ll clean up from the dinner cooking frenzy? Stop those worries in their tracks by having a game plan to deal with Thanksgiving clean-up, starting now! Our cleaning expert, Hometalker Angela, has all the right fixes for your holiday messes, so that you can enjoy a stress-free holiday of delicious food and loving company.

1) With all the cooking that surrounds the holidays, what are some tips on cleaning flat, electric stove tops?

You can keep glass stove tops clean during the holidays by cleaning up spills as they happen. For more stubborn food rings, make a paste of water, baking soda and soap and let it sit for at least 10 minutes; then wipe it all up.

2) What are some tips for a gas stove top?

Hot water and soap will go a long way with getting the cooked-on food off. Check the flames on all of the burners; if they are yellow-orange, the burner needs to be cleaned. If the flames are all blue, the burners are clean and burning properly.
For the stubborn grate and burner grime, put them in zip lock bags with 1/2 cup of ammonia overnight to melt away the grime. Rinse the grates and burners thoroughly before drying and putting them back on the stove. To keep the stove easy to clean, apply a light coat of car wax to the stove’s surface.

3) With the turkey and many sides that will fill the oven, what are some tips on deep cleaning your oven?

If the oven is self-cleaning, that is always a great option. If you prefer the elbow grease option, make a thick paste of baking soda and soap and cover all of the offending surface in the oven. Let the paste sit for a few hours while you enjoy an extra slice of pie. Then give the oven a good scrub and wipe away the baking soda, soap and grime. Use a vinegar spray to reveal any remaining baking soda and cut through extra soap bubbles.
