Five Simple Pallet Wood Projects

Pallet

I’m not really sure what it is about pallet wood that makes my heart sing. Seriously.

I was just sighing over the pictures and projects on this post, and I’m the one writing it. Maybe it’s because of the whole trash to treasure thing. Maybe it’s because pallet wood has such incredible, amazing, one-of-a-kind patina. Or maybe it’s because the possibilities for pallet projects are endless. Whatever the reason, here’s five simple pallet projects…to make your heart sing along with mine.

Pallet Wood Letter

pallet1

There are many pallet wood letter projects out there. What makes this one special? It’s all about the trim. To make this project, download the silhouette of a letter from the font you want. Nail pieces of pallet wood onto plywood in a horizontal pattern. Trace the letter onto the plywood/pallet wood base. Cut out with a saw. Next, trim out the letter with pallet wood pieces. Cut pieces to fit the edges of the letter and glue or nail into place.

Take pieces of pallet wood and cut out 3″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. Notch the ends of the rectangles to create tags. Drill holes approximately 1/2″ from the side. String tags together with jute twine. You can add knots to tie the banner pieces in place. Glue letters or paint letters on the banner pieces and decorate your mantel with style.

Pallet wood hook

pallet3

Make a base for the hook from pallet wood. Nail several pieces of pallet wood to a piece of plywood. Stagger the plywood pieces for visual interest. Trim out the edges with additional pallet wood pieces. Screw hook into the center of the pallet wood base.

Pallet Wood Calendar

pallet4

Make a simple calendar out of tags and pallet wood. Create a base similar to the one in project three. Trim out base and nail three nails into the center. Purchase months and numbers from a craft store or simply create your own from white card-stock and stamps. Hang calendar on nails and change out numbers daily.

Pallet wood coat hook

pallet5

Begin with a long piece of plywood measuring 14″ x 6″. Cut 6 vertical pieces of pallet wood and attach pallet wood to plywood with nails or glue. Trim out base with remaining pallet wood. Screw in hooks for coats and hang in your mudroom or by the back door.

Pallet wood is amazing. It’s inexpensive and easy to use, and has an incredible industrial patina. And the best part?

When I create pallet wood projects, my heart always, always, carries the tune.
