Hazelnut Mint Julep

The Kentucky Derby is a storied event filled with rich history and traditional pomp and circumstance. From the hats to the horses, derby parties are so much fun and a great way to get excited about the race. While the race is over in a flash, the mint juleps are served all day and night, and this Hazelnut Mint Julep is a great alternative to the traditional!

A classic mint julep is made with powdered sugar, bourbon whiskey, water and mint leaves. To create this sweeter version, simply add 1 oz. of hazelnut liquor, such as Frangelico.

Mint-Julep-Collage

While this cocktail can be served in a highball glass, mint juleps are known for being served in silver julep cups, which get frosty cold!

So invite your friends over in their best hats and party attire and put a mint julep in their hand! May the best horse win!

Party Tip: If you’re hosting a Kentucky Derby party, be sure to use red roses for your centerpieces. The red rose is the official flower of the Kentucky Derby. Every year the winning horse is draped with a garland made of red roses.
