Spring Color Trends

Neutrals and Brights Play Nicely Together

If you like to play it safe when it comes to color choices, there is no need to worry this spring – neutrals continue to flourish in home design this season. They are considered foundation colors and are still a great choice for major pieces of furniture such as sofas and chairs, floor coverings, and cabinetry. Monochromatic color schemes built around soft grays, taupe, and cream are elegant, timeless and safe. They are warm and comforting and they mix great with other colors.

Brighter colors are great as accents to complement otherwise monochromatic schemes and to make seasonal décor updates easy and fun. Accessories and accents are where the color buzz is today.

When it comes to choosing paint color you can stay neutral by choosing colors such as: antique pewter, grey white cove or foggy coast; Italian marble or drift away. These hues are timeless and classic and will look great as a background to any color scheme.

So which are the hottest accent colors this spring? Well, it seems that, just like in nature, we need balance in how we decorate in our home. The greatest compliments to all those grays, taupe and creams are bright and saturated colors that are as juicy as our favorite fruits!

Yellow

Yellow is the hottest accent color this spring. Not the mellow yellow though, but the bright and saturated, in shades ranging from banana yellow to light lime. Use in a neutral room (try it with grey!) as an accent wall, or bring it in with pillows or a piece of art.

Orange

Orange continues to be a great accent color popping up in small accent tables, throw pillows and area rugs.

Blue

This spring add some Robin’s Egg Blue to your life. It looks fabulous when paired with fuchsia or yellow. For a refreshing look, combine it with whites and grays. The possibilities are endless! Robin’s Egg blue also works great with metallic finishes in both silver and gold tones.

How to Incorporate these Colors Room by Room

In the kitchen
Stick with neutral cabinets – white is still the safest color when choosing painted cabinets. If opting for stained wood, pick a light tone such as ash or natural bamboo for an updated and sophisticated look.

Use accent colors in kitchen accessories and fabrics. Colorful bowls and containers bring a cheerful feel to your kitchen without long-term commitment. Create an accent wall in the eat-in area by painting cheerful white and yellow stripes. Place a vase of fresh yellow flowers on your kitchen island to continue with this great spring color scheme.

In the bedroom
Bedroom color scheme should be soothing and relaxing so avoid bright colored walls. That’s where cream and light taupe will form a great canvas on which to display beautiful touches of brighter colors. Opt for white or cream bedding and use throw pillows and blankets featuring the spring’s hottest hues. Add colorful trim to neutral drapery or paint an accent wall behind the bed to create an instant focal point.

In the bathroom
Use neutral tile and fixtures but color splurge with towels, toiletries containers and art.
