Home Security Checklist

Your home is one of the most important financial investments you’ll make in your life. As such, it stands to reason that securing the investment would be a top priority. Did you know that there are more than 8,000 home invasions every day in North America? To avoid this from happening to your home, here is a checklist of deterrents:

Adequate locks:

Having sufficient locks on all windows and doors are crucial to discourage thieves from your home. Check those locks regularly and often to be sure they are working properly. Lock at all times, while not in use.

Proper window and door coverings:

To prevent burglars from being tempted by your homes’ valuables, have proper coverings. This includes clings, curtains, window film, etc.

Avert possibilities with outside protection:

Having security features on the outside of your home, and its assets, could possibly thwart off intruders. Be sure to have safety features on your sheds, garage doors, fences, etc to increase the level of difficulty to trespassing.

Alarm Systems:

There are many companies that you can call for a home invasion alarm system, most range between $25-$65 per month plus installation, depending on where you live. Or there are less expensive alternatives which mimic car alarms in the fact they make loud (120 decibel) noises to alert those nearby of what’s happening. Most often the sheer noise of an alert would scare any intruder off. Either option is great to have.

While protecting your home and its valuables is important, having a peace of mind that you and your family are safe is even more vital. Take the steps now to defending you both, today!
