Buying

Condo versus House

When you’re house hunting there are many decisions that need to be made, including whether you want a condo or house. Here’s a list of pros and cons for each so you can decide which of these options meets your needs.

Condo:

Pro: Maintenance such as hallway cleaning and landscaping is provided, affordability, possible on-site gym and an instant community.
Cons: You have to pay a monthly fee, close proximity to your neighbors, communal parking and possibly lower resale value.

Single Family House:

Pro: Land ownership, stand-alone structure, freedom to modify as needed, no pet or use restrictions, higher resale value, greater privacy and private parking.
Con: All maintenance falls on you – landscaping, home repairs, bug infestation plus higher costs to buy and higher property taxes.
