Foreclosure DIY: Give us LIGHT

Buying a foreclosure can be scary and exciting at the same time. It can be scary in the sense that you don’t always know what you’re buying and exciting because of the great deal and ability to make it your own. But getting a home inspection will help you with the first part and our foreclosure do-it-yourself tips will help with the second!

This month we want to hit on lighting inside your foreclosure purchase. Freshening up the lighting in your home can really make a difference. Sometimes the existing lighting in a foreclosure doesn’t completely match the rest of the home’s décor. And when you move into a new place, or are just looking to revamp a space, replacing a lighting fixture can do the trick!

I can attest when I bought my first home, which happened to be a foreclosure, replacing light fixtures was at the top on our “to-do” list. They were a simple and inexpensive way to update a space within the home. The entryway, hallway and bathrooms needed to be updated from brass to a more modern look of brush nickel.

Replacing the fixtures is easy. Turn off the power at the home’s breaker box and remove the existing fixture. Be sure to get help if it’s a heavy fixture! Then connect the wires on your new fixture. Turn the power back on to see if it works. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this yourself, hire an electrician to help. Soon you’ll be seeing your house in a whole new light.
