Host Friendsgiving

Thanksgiving is an entertainers dream, or possibly nightmare. Part of the reason I love Thanksgiving is because of my family’s traditions that revolve around the holiday. Even though Thanksgiving is a day designated for family, I myself like to have a “Friends-giving” before the big day. I mean, why should that amazing meal only take place once a year?

The Thursday before Thanksgiving, invite all your good friends over for your very own Friends-giving. I love learning about other family’s traditions, and of course their recipes, and Thanksgiving is a great time to share. When hosting your first Friends-giving take on the task of making the turkey and encourage all your guests to bring their favorite Thanksgiving side. My personal favorite: my mom’s green bean casserole, which is ironic, because I hate green beans! Perhaps it’s her spin on the traditional dish:

Mom’s Green Bean Casserole

  • 1 (10 ¾ oz.) can of Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup
  • 4 cans of french cut green beans (drained)
  • 2 cups of French’s french fried onions
  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese

Preparing the dish is just about as simple as the ingredients. Combine the drained green beans with the cream of mushroom soup, top with cheddar cheese, and fried onions. Then bake your casserole for 30 minutes in the oven set at 350 degrees.

Typically, Thanksgiving attire resembles you Sunday’s best, but for Friends-giving, invite your guests to truly dress for the occasion! Themed parties are my favorite, and Friends-giving is no exception. Ask your friends to dress as either a pilgrim or Indian for the meal! Everyone will certainly have a blast getting ready for the evening, and your festive outfits will make for great photo ops!

During the meal open the floor for a tradition that I’m sure everyone shares: telling what you’re thankful for. Not only is it great to share with your friends all that you’re grateful for, it’s also practice for the real thing!

Hosting your very own Friends-giving is an inexpensive way to share your favorite holiday traditions and celebrate Thanksgiving with your friends, as well as you family.
