Water Oak Plantation

Tallahassee, Florida’s history includes the lovely Water Oak Plantation that has been recently put on the market. It is a rare occasion to have a historical plantation for sale to the public,  but after owning the home for 30 years the owners of Water Oak Plantation are doing just that.

Richard Bradford founded Water Oak Plantation in 1821 and after his death during the Civil War, the plantation was sold to Clement Griscom. The plantation was then passed down to Frances Griscom; first US Woman’s Golf Champion, then to Lester Tabb and ultimately to the most recent owners Margaret and Tom Johnson and their children in 1985.

The Grand Antebellum includes 8,000 square-feet;  14 rooms, 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 3 half baths, a walk out basement, 2 car garage with studio and half bath. The plantation property includes a second house built in 1993; it is 4,275 square-feet and consists of 5 bedrooms facing the lakefront, 4 bathrooms, and 1 half bath. The property also includes a cottage which was built in 1998 and has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a full back porch. Finally, the plantation has a 10-stall barn and 2 more barns for equipment and hay storage.

Aside from the homes and barns, the plantation also has a lake, private spring and beautiful greenery including the long drive up to the home lined with trees. This plantation speaks of southern elegance and holds true American history.
