Nothing deters people from entertaining quite like the feeling that they don’t have the space for it. Don’t let a lack of square footage keep you from enjoying time with friends or family at home. Incorporate these ideas for creating an entertaining space that you may not even know you have!
Use a console table
Most people have a large piece of furniture like a console or chest of drawers that they can turn into a serving area for casual get-togethers. Here, I’ve turned our long TV console (it’s actually 2 placed side by side) into a surface for refreshments while watching the big game.
Just clear away your everyday decor and use the surface for food and drinks. Use trays to corral items together, and serve chili, chips, and pigs in a blanket.
Put Your Shelves to Good Use
Don’t forget about your shelves either. Whether you have floating shelved on a wall or a standing book case, use the area to hold drinks or dessert.
Get Yourself a Bar Cart
Bar carts are the hottest trend now, and for good reason – they’re stylish as well as utilitarian. Set up your bar on wheels and you can roll the party wherever you need to! And even when you’re not using it for entertaining, it looks great as part of your home decor.
Trays are the Answer
The most basic of items for creating an entertaining space is a tray. With this simple accessory, you can take the party anywhere, even the floor! Here, I’ve set up a game night area using our large ottoman in front of the fireplace. Add some pillows and throws to cozy up with while you sit around the ottoman or coffee table and play board games. A tray or two can be used to hold snacks or as a hard surface to place drinks on.
Next time you want to have guests over, think about creating a new space for entertaining. Even if you live in a large home, it’s fun to change it up now and then, and use surfaces that might make it more convenient to grab food or drink. Think outside the box and see what you can come up with!
