Favorite 2014 Home Design Trends

One of my favorite things to do is search out trends for the new year, and then find actual examples of ways that I would use them in my own home. 2014 is FULL of awesome, edgy new things to try, and I’m excited to share a handful of my favorites with you! When I first heard the words “dark painted walls,” I rolled my eyes and thought, “Yeah, right.” But after doing a little research on how awesome an accent wall, covered in a rich, deep tone can really be… I think I might be in love!

With this trend, the secret is in the placement of that accent wall that you choose to paint dark. Placing it behind or next to a significant amount of white [...]

Freshening up Your Master Bedroom for the New Year

I don’t know about you, but once the new year hits, my mind is full of a million ideas on how to clean out, organize and freshen up our home. Maybe it’s because the process of putting away all the holiday decorations from the months prior sometimes forces you to readjust a few closets and storage rooms. Either way, it feels great to get things looking and feeling ready for another big year.

One of the most neglected areas in a lot of peoples’ homes tends to be the master bedroom, so I thought I’d list a few easy, affordable ways that anyone can freshen up their sleeping sanctuary. One of the easiest and fastest ways to revive a space is to air it out. [...]

I’ve always loved celebrating the New Year. It symbolizes somewhat of a fresh start and clean slate for another year. That being said, since we became parents, our New Years Eve partying has changed quite dramatically. Ha! We’re lucky if we can make it till ten o’clock most years… but that doesn’t stop us from having a ton of fun. It was a blast, and my kids still talk about it and love to look back at the pictures we took that night. This got me thinking… why not share some fun ideas for a few easy DIY photo backdrop ideas that you can [...]

DIY Rustic Wood Embellished Holiday Plaque

The holiday season is the perfect time to create in your home. Try this DIY project by Shelley from The House of Smiths to add a little holiday spirit to your home!

Since we’re going with a whimsical, white and gold theme for our holiday decor this year, I decided that adding a few more rustic, natural elements would help balance out all of the feminine touches and sparkle going on. I’ve always been in love with words, so a customized wooden holiday plaque with a popular phrase on it seemed like the perfect idea. With a 40% off coupon in tow, I snagged this rustic wooden board at my local home decor store. It came to about $5.00. Then I took some seashell white [...]

How to Install a Ceiling Fan

I live in the south. It’s hot here and I just sat here for a minute or so trying to think of one person I know locally who does not have a ceiling fan in each bedroom of their home. I got nothing. It’s just how it is down here. I know it might be more popular design-wise to have a beautiful chandelier hanging over your bed (believe me, I love that look) but if I ever tried that, my husband for sure would be bunking with the kids in their blissfully breezy rooms. When it’s mid summer and setting your AC below 76 means going broke, you better believe that ceiling beast is set on high. So hang on to your sheets, this is how to install a ceiling fan.

Now this [...]
